The Hiker's Clubhouse

The 118.3m² double storey lightweight structure sits at the peak of the forest as a resting point and for hiker's activity. Innovative choice of material combination; steel floor with timber wall at various lengths that join at 90°. Structural strength us considered to withstand the weight of the climbers. Timber wall brings user in contact with nature.

Consideration is given to the design of deck at the pond, timber deck ramp and gaps in between for moisture expansion, timber steps with groove at nosing to prevent slip, clearance at edge of steps for light insertion, using pebble stones to cover the scupper drain for aesthetic concern, and mosel slate cladding at areas exposed to weather.
