Proto-Bearbrass Laboratory

An investigation of Melbourne architecture in a broader architectural history and the search for their confluence. The project is a propositional island laboratory and is conceived as a garden filled with follies with strong eclecticism. The project is deeply imbued in nostalgia where the artifacts are planned according to the Hoddle Grid laid parallel to the river, and Royal Botanical Gardens, once proposed at Batman's Hill where wombats lived (at the present Southern Cross Station). The laboratory is divided into 4 wards of production. Lost historical feature is retrieved; ferry terminal and turning basin (from the city) and the peach and almond garden (from the site).
Melbourne icons and architecture historical icons are arranged in sequences of non-chronological order, transgressing time. Gradual transformation of architectural form through repetition creates continuation between the past and the present at the same time serves as new architecture ideas for Melbourne. Tempietto and The Shrine are the key references used for their strong eclecticism.
The project concluded with the confluence of the two main axis, producing a centerpiece of ambiguous and shell structures, a mixture of Featurist and Non-Featurist architecture.
"This is a rich, smug city. Pretty conservative. I'm a renegade, I've said all I've got to say in my buildings..." -Sir Roy Grounds
